We Persevere- Today, We Remember 9/11

September 11, 2020, is truly an important moment of reflection for our country. As we all remember the tragic day, my prayers still remain with the victims and their families. We will never forget.

Today is the 19th Anniversary of September 11, 2001, and many of us will reflect on that very moment when we heard that our Nation was under attack. I’d be remiss if I didn’t thank all of the first responders who ran towards danger on that day, to save lives, proving just how strong, compassionate, and resilient we are.

This year, 9/11 takes on a much different meaning for me. The eldest of my four sweet daughters is 10 years old and my youngest is 4. We have always discussed 9/11 and given our prayers, but today I will be presenting to a homeschool classroom. Those attentive students are my 4 children, which to me represent our next generation.

For days I’ve thought about what I will say to them; how will I transfer the importance of such a historical moment in our history to a growing group of young Americans. And this morning, my message came to me in clear form.

We hear much about how our country being divided, we hear much about protest, we see rioting in communities and we face a deadly virus like our generation has never seen. But as Americans, we persevere- if we fall down, we stand up stronger!

Today, I will share with my daughters that the images of those two burning towers and smoke rising from the Pentagon were deplorable- images I’ll never forget. Yet, what I remember most is how our Nation came together. I remember how many American flags flew proudly on homes, dorm room doors, bumper stickers, basketball jerseys, etc. And when our National Anthem played, it ran chills through my spine.

Today, we live in a stronger America because after 9/11 Americans Persevered- we mobilized, some by joining the Armed Forces, some gave blood or volunteered to support families in need; we do our part. We fought to protect the very freedoms and liberty we all share today.

Today is a day we must never forget. Today is a day that we must pass on its meaning and symbolism to our next generation as they will be the ones to storm the beach for liberation or run towards the flames to protect Americans.

Let’s Never Forget…
